A Transformational Journey Into the Science, Wisdom and Practice of Mindfulness, Compassion and Embodiment
Nalanda Institute’s Contemplative Psychotherapy Program is the premier program for the integration of proven teachings on Mindfulness, Compassion, and Embodiment with contemporary neuropsychology, psychotherapy and the shared pursuit of positive social change. Our core faculty, supported by both live and recorded instruction from some of the leading experts in this field, will teach you to weave contemplative psychology, insights, and practices into the daily fabric of your personal life and professional practice.
The program is made up of three separate 9-month courses—listed below—providing the time and space for these teachings and practices to become part of one’s life and way of being.
In 2024, we will offer the Certificate Program in Wise Compassion and Certificate Program in Embodied Wisdom (offered in English, Spanish & Portuguese). The Certificate Program in Mindful Insight will be offered again in 2025. Please follow the links below to learn more and apply.

Nalanda Institute is a contemplative learning community of people devoted to transforming their lives, supporting others in changing themselves and working together to better care for the world we share. It was founded by Academic Director Joe Loizzo, MD, PhD, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and Columbia-trained Buddhist scholar with over forty years’ experience studying the beneficial effects of contemplative practices.
Our programs blend university level rigorous content with the experiential practices needed for self and societal transformation. The educational experience is designed to be communal, impactful, and practical which means students begin to process and implement what they learn from their first day of instruction.
