Embodying the Great Seal of Non-Dual Compassion: Cultivating the Blissful Spirit of Belonging
Course Six in the Sustainable Happiness Program with Scott Tusa
As we and our world become increasingly interconnected 24/7, we have to ask—is it humanly possible to take it all in and keep responding with mindful awareness and embodied compassion? Fortunately for us all, the Nalanda tradition preserved in Tibet not only offers a resounding affirmation of our talent for total presence, but also challenges our self-doubt with rigorous methods of deeper practice.
This final course in Nalanda Institute’s Sustainable Happiness Program will introduce you to the tradition’s most powerful practice of radical presence, the profound art of the Great Seal (Mahamudra). By gradually deepening our embodied awareness, we begin to access unitive flow states of mind that help us sense our deeper connection with all nature and life. These states in turn naturally open our hearts and minds to the non-dual intuitive wisdom of emptiness, the Great Seal that reveals our primal communion with all beings and things.
This profound practice is said to speed the normal path of insight mediation by borrowing power-tools from the embodied depth-psychology of Tantric Yoga. It anticipates current research that shows that accessing normally unconscious non-dual mind states can help integrate the opposing externally/internally focused networks in our brain in ways that enhance our natural capacity for a deeper sense of belonging, common human empathy and universal compassion.

Prerequisites: Some familiarity with mindfulness, loving-kindness, yoga, and/or an openness to the path of self-healing and self-transformation.
