The Bodhisattva Path: Is Sitting Practice Enough? With Reggie Hubbard

Reggie Hubbard class

Reggie Hubbard class

In this 3-session online course, Reggie Hubbard of Active Peace Yoga invites you to take a fresh look at your contemplative practice from the Bodhisattva perspective of compassion in action. This course asks how your practice might inspire and support you to engage, serve and impact the communities to which you belong. Reggie will skillfully guide us to care more deeply for ourselves so we can find the resources to engage more fully with our social surroundings—our families, friends, clients, communities and the world we all share. This course relies both on deepening our inner practice and on sharing an experiential group journey. The intention of this short-form course is meant to guide us to shift our practice from inward to outward, passive to active.

Week One: What does civic engagement have to do with my dharma practice?

In this class, Reggie will lead a discussion around how contemplative practice can and must eventually interact with civic engagement to gain traction. How can our practice help us shift from the rugged individualism of an internalized dharma path towards cultivating an actively engaged path of compassion that leads us to feel and act responsibly towards others and the work of collective liberation our times’ demand?

Week Two: What does an active practice off the cushion look like?

In this class, we will explore the next set of questions that help us transition from inward to outward, passive to active. How do I/we envision the outwardly engaged dimension of contemplative practice? How will I/we develop the resilience, courage and skills needed to take the small and big steps that can impact others and the world we share?

Week Three: Don’t talk about it, be about It. Strategic thinking for making an impact locally and globally.

Through reflective and restorative practices like journal writing, working with sound and embodied breath and movement practices, Reggie will guide us into finding our voice of authentic engagement. Building on that inward shift, we will practice together speaking to and with our own communities to discover what steps will lead towards meaningful compassionate service and impact.

Please join Reggie and your fellow active peacemakers to grow this vital dimension of all our practice!

Reggie Hubbard is a leading activist, strategist, and teacher with experience in fields ranging from global marketing, digital and community organizing, government relations, international education and Presidential campaigning. Reggie is also a 500-hour certified yoga teacher and author of a thesis entitled, “Yoga and Spiritual Activism: Serving Humanity from a Sense of Devotion and Love.”

He teaches Members of Congress, Congressional Staff, leading progressive organizations and individuals, sharing techniques for growing peace and ease as a foundation, not an afterthought in his teaching practice, Active Peace Yoga.

In July 2020, Reggie helped launch a grassroots campaign along with David Lipsius, Amy Ippoliti, Jack Kornfeld and Tara Brach called Buddhists and Yogins United. This is an effort to share information and inspire teachers and their respective communities to encourage active civic participation in the upcoming election and beyond. These times require our active engagement in social change – we must move beyond talk toward courageous and inspired action.

Reggie holds a BA in Philosophy from Yale, and an international MBA from the Vlerick Business School in Belgium.
